From England, to Australia, to America, to South Africa, Crundwells are one of the truly unique family surnames. I believe you have come here because you have the same goal as I do in tracing Crundwell family history. Many Crundwell’s from around the world have visited this site and shared their family information. If you new to this site, please take the time to visit the message boards or sign the guest book and tell us a little bit about you and your family. If you’re lucky you might just find a long-lost cousin.
My direct line of Crundwells are from the Tunbridge Wells, area of Kent, England. According to Barry John Crundwell of Bexley, Kent, England says that the Crundwells of that region were clock and watch makers. My branch emigrated to the United States around 1843. Samuel Crundwell and his wife settled in Illinois with their ten children. After their deaths the children were split up, some going to Texas. US & Confederate military records show that these brothers fought against each other in the American Civil War (1860-1865).
Since the launch of this page in the fall of 1996 over hundreds Crundwells or descendants of Crundwells from around the world have stopped by this page to list their contact information. Check out the message boards and feel free to leave your information.
When it comes to the occupations of Crundwells past, many records list watchmakers and clockmakers. In the late 1990s, a Crundwell pocket watch was made available on Ebay, and I was able to capture a couple of pictures.
While I maintain the website — my father Robert has done most of the research. He has spent a great deal of time researching other branches of your tree, and now is nearing 10,000 individuals.
